LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

Salary: £15,000 to £18,000 depending on experience and qualifications

KWS BioTest is a contract research organisation, based in the Bristol area, undertaking drug discovery testing for a range of biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients.  The company is in a phase of expansion and requires at least one Laboratory Technician.
 
The successful applicant will be an integral part of a dynamic and flexible scientific support team which is involved in a variety of laboratory activities throughout the organisation.  The assortment of experimental tasks that the post holder(s) will be involved in is wide-ranging but includes activities such as:

  • Supporting laboratory logistics and ordering.
  • Processing samples such as blood, tissues, microbiological, etc.
  • Preparing reagents for use in experiments.
  • Supporting laboratory experiments.
  • Supporting safety activities.
  • Ensuring cleanliness of the facilities.
  • Supporting archiving and coordination of activities after a project.

There will also be the opportunity for the post holder to gain experience and knowledge of other techniques such as culture of primary cells and cell lines, flow cytometry, ELISA, Luminex and other analytical techniques.  

Ideally candidates should have a biological sciences based undergraduate degree but other candidates with a technical background will be considered.  An ideal candidate will also preferably have a good grasp of the drug discovery process and may have worked in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. Some experience in a laboratory environment would be beneficial.

KWS BioTest is an ISO9001 accredited CRO, so all personnel have a responsibility to understand and follow the company’s quality management system, maintain accurate records and work to a high standard.  An understanding of GCP/GCLP would also be an advantage.

SENIOR SCIENTIST (CLINICAL TRIALS)

Salary: £35,000 to £45,000 depending on experience and qualifications

KWS BioTest is a contract research organisation, based in the Bristol area, working closely with a range of biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients in order to develop new drugs for human disease.  The company is in a phase of rapid expansion and wishes to appoint a Senior Scientist to help co-ordinate its clinical sample analysis capability.

The successful applicant will be an integral part of a dynamic and flexible team which designs and conducts assays that assess the effects of new drugs in clinical trial samples. The individual will be expected to lead clinical laboratory projects, be client-facing and will be responsible for managing more junior colleagues.  In addition, there will may be some involvement in pre-clinical studies.
 
This role exists within our Analytical Services teams, who develop and run a wide range of immunological assays using techniques such as cell culture, ELISA, Luminex and flow cytometry.  The post holder will design bespoke assays around specific project/drug target needs and then be able to validate and run these assays in order to assess the clinical response to novel treatments in Phase 1, 2 and 3 trials.  As such, they will be working with partners to provide critical evidence for the effectiveness of their novel treatments as they move through the drug development process.
 
Prospective candidates should have a strong understanding of Immunology evidenced by a Master’s degree, PhD or substantive experience working in the field. They should have experience of the clinical trials process and in handling clinical trial samples and validating assays to investigate these.  An ideal candidate will also have a good grasp of drug discovery/development and may have worked in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or CRO industry.
